Fresh snowfall at the end of October gave this short two-day hike in the Alpstein area an unexpectedly Alpine character. After our tour was cut short by a storm the day before, we enjoyed cold but sunny weather and clear skies. We spent a memorable night in the Stauberen mountain inn before continuing to the summit of Hoher Kasten on the next day.

The second day of our trip starts with a remarkable sunrise, casting breathtaking colours over the Alpstein mountains. We have plenty of time for today's short route, so after enjoying sunrise and breakfast we are up for a late start of our hike. After approximately two hours, we arrive at the summit of Hoher Kasten, where we admire the spectacular view of the Alpstein area and the Sämtisersee below.
