Ruwer Valley

This is a photographic exploration of the Ruwer valley, my homeland in the Hunsrück region in Germany. The name of the river Ruwer is likely to originate from the Indo-Germanic word Ruuara, literally "the one that rips open" the surrounding hills. Embedded into deep forests, the valley has a rich history, with archeological sites that date back to Franconian, Roman, Celtic, and prehistoric times. Rather than boasting of majestic landscapes, it is a land of small, tucked away, and solitary spots of unobtrusive beauty, which are only known to the initiated.
