Bringing the great outdoors inside.

Day Hike Collection

Philosophers, scientists, and writers have instinctively noted the deep connection between walking and thinking for more than two millennia. Recent studies corroborate this intuition, showing that regular walks through nature improve our ability to think, help us to develop creative solutions and support both physical and mental health. To benefit from those positive effects, I go on day hikes whenever I can and wherever I am. On this page, I share a collection of my favorite routes that I have discovered over the past years.

This table gives a sortable overview of all day hikes listed on the Outdoor Activities page. Favourite hikes are marked with ratings. A click on the name of the tour takes you to a page with detailed information. For mountain hikes, the trail type column contains the difficulty level (T1-T6) according to the SAC Hiking Scale. Tours in the "Easy Hike" level are below T1 level and should thus be suitable for anyone. Tours in the "Winter Hike" category pass along prepared winter hiking trails.

To get an approximate idea which hikes are possible without snow shoes or skiing equipment at a given time of the year, you can sort the table by month (and check the indicated maximum altitude). Please check weather reports, web cams, and snow reports before you start. All information and GPS data are provided as-is, with no guarantee for completeness or correctness. Some tours pass through remote and potentially dangerous mountain terrain. By using information from this page you understand that you are responsible for your own safety.
