Bringing the great outdoors inside.

As much as I love to spend time outdoors exploring and photographing natural landscapes, I also enjoy the virtual exploration of new places on beautiful large scale maps, ideally in preparation of a real trip. Just like landscape photography, maps have a special ability to stimulate our imagination and they allow us to make imaginary journeys to places we may never see with our own eyes. With this on-going series, I intend to combine the fascination of photographic and topographic explorations. Being a portmanteau of the words "photography" and "topography", photopography refers to a photographic mapping of a real or imaginary place, area, or country.

« I am told there are people who do not care for maps, and I find it hard to believe. »

Robert Louis Stevenson
